Please help us

To our neighbors in Thousand Oaks from Dr. Greg and family:

By Mon Jan 13, will you please consider contacting these honorable City Council Members by email, telephone or personal meeting — to voice your opinion?

The Problem: Verizon wants to Install 12 six-foot high, Macro-Cellular Antennas (36,000 Watts of Power) at About 100 Feet From the Homes on Sunnyhill Street.

  • These 12 antennas will be six feet higher than the ridgeline, clearly visible to all; this would violate the Ridgeline Ordinance

  • Every other cellular antenna in North Ranch is at least 30 feet from the ground, unlike these proposed antennas which are only six feet from the ground

  • The only other in-ground water tank in Thousand Oaks with cellular antennas is 400 feet higher than — and 600 feet from — the nearest homes.

  • Why are we considering another Macro Base Station in 2020 when Small Cells can fill-in coverage where needed?

  • North Ranch deserves much better from Verizon Wireless, a firm that has revenues of over $130 Billion a year shouldn’t just build the cheapest alternative.

Our nearest neighbors live in houses on Sunnyhill Street that are within 250 feet of the in-ground water tank that is — unbelievably — being targeted by Verizon for the installation of 12 ground-mounted, 6-foot high, Macro Cellular Antennas that would pump out a total of 36,000 Watts OR MORE of Effective Radiated Power day and night.

Please help us and the families that live on our street: Hoesin & Fery Afshar, Ashok & Raksha Desai, Bob & Kathy Dirks, Kal Liebowitz, Dr. James & Linda Lin, Susan McCray, Dr. Greg & Tomi Tchejeyen and Tim & Lucie Walsh. These fine people are being asked to endure what no other resident of North Ranch faces — to live, work, sleep and heal as close as 90 feet to major-league, industrial equipment, complete with a diesel generator and a large tank of diesel fuel next to the water tank that holds our drinking water. Does this sound like a good idea to you?

The Solution: Deny this Verizon Application and Force Verizon to Choose An Appropriate Site (we found over 20 of such sites)

This taking of property, residential character and aesthetic values of our lovely neighborhood is both highly unusual and extremely wrong — due to corporate greed of one company, Verizon Wireless, a firm that is simply too lazy and too cheap to pay for the infrastructure to install these antennas on one of our uninhabited hillsides.

Through this ordeal, we have learned one universal truth: no one — and I mean no one — wants to, or should have to, live this close to what is essentially a ground-mounted, Macro Tower Cellular industrial factory that produces pulsed, data-modulated, Radio-frequency Electromagnetic Microwave Radiation (RF-EMR) 24 hour days, seven days a week, year after year.

There is an easy and common-sense solution: encourage the City Council to deny this inappropriate application and ask Verizon to move these antennas to a spot on on a hill that is at least 1,000 feet from any home.

As I have completed more than 10,000 joint replacement surgeries, many who read this are friends whom I care about and I have tried my best to help. All I have wanted is a terrific home for our family, which we’ve done at a great expense. Our home is about to be lost to us due to the cancer and other health risks from the proposed installation of extremely powerful microwave antennas on the hilltop around which my family and our neighbors live. These constant pulsating microwave emissions would penetrate my family 24 hours a day, seven days a week from up close. The effect of this is to ruin all that I have sought to build.

Thousand Oaks is the most carefully planned community in California, conceived in great detail by the finest urban planners of the 1960s and 70s. That’s why we have the rules through which we all live well in such a great place. Ever since our community started, our Homeowners Association rules specifically forbade microwave broadcast antennas. For example, the North Ranch CC&Rs are subject to the in-perpetuity requirement that no microwave broadcast antennas be allowed, including that:

“No antenna for transmission or reception of television signals or any other form of ElectroMagnetic radiation shall be erected, used or maintained outdoors, whether attached to a building or structure or freestanding.” (Book 4729, page 903; Article 4, section D, page 14 of Declaration of Covenants Conditions and Restrictions for Westlake North). Amended: “No television or radio poles, antennas, flagpoles, clotheslines, basketball standards, or other external fixtures except those approved by the Architectural Committee shall be constructed, erected or maintained on any Lot, except as permitted by law…” (First Amendment to Declaration of Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions for Westlake North Property Owner’s Association, Amendment 4, Article IV, Section 4.01D).

Despite this and other Architectural Review and Ridgeline rules, Verizon now plans to install huge powerful antennas only about 100 feet from our family home. As a scientist familiar with the data, I realized that we would not be able to stay. This would result in the practical loss of our home. Below are good information sites about the dangers from close proximity cellular radiation. For example, our own government’s National Institutes of Health, through its National Toxicology Program, after the completion of a 30 month $25 million study, and more than two years of further peer-review, determined that this radiation causes cancer:

It is well proven that the telecom industry has not been honest about disclosing the actual risks of this radiation. For example, please read the following article:

For an excellent compendium of scientific literature showing the risks from this radiation, see the following website – completed by Dr. Beatrice Alexandra Golomb, MD, PhD from the UCSD School of Medicine:

The fate of my family will be before our Thousand Oaks City Council on this next Tuesday evening, January 14th at 6 PM. Our family would appreciate your voice.
