MAKO Robotic Surgery in Westlake Village
MAKO Robotic Surgery in Westlake Village

Looking for the right orthopedic surgeon in Westlake Village is easy if you consider the level of expertise of each candidate.  You may recall our blog post on how to choose your surgeon.  It highlights the main qualifications to look for when choosing who to see for orthopedic conditions:

  • Is your surgeon fellowship trained?
  • How deep is your surgeon’s toolbox?
  • What is your surgeon’s volume and experience?
  • How is your surgeon’s peer review?
  • What performance data does your surgeon have and how do they rank?
  • How accessible is your surgeon before and after surgery?

Each of these questions should come with well-supplied answers from your surgeon and their office staff.  Patients of Dr. Gregory H. Tchejeyan can have confidence in their decision to work with him. The friendly office staff is ready to help answer any questions you may have or schedule you for a consultation during which you can speak with Dr. T. personally.

Making Mako Robotic Surgery Accessible to Thousand Oaks

Fellowship-trained with a specialty in the knee, Dr. Tchejeyan always seeks continued education to improve his practice.  In doing so, he’s chosen to bring in a revolutionary robotic technique for minimally invasive joint repair and replacement surgeries – the MAKO Robotic Arm.

Being one of the few Fellowship-Trained Mako surgeons in Westlake Village, Dr. T. is well known in Thousand Oaks as the “LA Knee Guy”!  He’s performed over 11,000 surgeries in his career, many of which involved the Mako.

Mako Cases by Dr. Tchejeyan

Dr. Tchejeyan shares robotic cases on his blog page to help educate and inform patients who may be considering a similar procedure.

In one case, Dr. T. performed Robotic Knee Resurfacing on a 67-year-old female patient with a long history of right anterior (front) knee pain.  She came to TJN Orthopaedics for a second opinion, since her last doctor recommended total knee replacement.  She had also exhausted all of her non-surgical options, including anti-inflammatories and cortisone injections.

Robotic Knee

With intact ligaments and healthy cartilage between the femur and tibia, a total knee replacement wasn’t necessary.  Instead, with a partial knee resurfacing, the patient could fearlessly engage in more functional high-impact activities post-surgery.

In another case, Dr. T. performed a Partial Knee Resurfacing on a 63-year-old male who was experiencing bone-on-bone arthritis in his left knee.  It had only been 3 years since he had joint replacement surgery on his right knee.  This surgery was performed by another surgeon using manual instruments, but the patient was still experiencing pain in his right knee.  Now that he needed surgery on the left knee, too, the patient was hesitant due to his negative experience the first time.

In the best interest of the patient, Dr. Tchejeyan educated him on the superiority of robotic methods using the MAKO, and offered less surgery, specifically a partial knee resurfacing. The patient agreed.

April Case of The Month

Healing his patients from pain and inability to perform everyday activities is what’s most rewarding for Dr. Tchejeyan.  The Mako robot helps him provide this healing in a way that is less invasive and therefore safer and easier for his patients.  Recovery time and infection risk are lowered thanks to the Mako technique, which allows for smaller incisions and less trauma to surrounding tissues. When it comes to orthopedic surgery, finding the right local surgeon is not only important – it’s imperative to your body’s health and recovery.  To schedule a consultation with Westlake Village’s premier orthopedic surgeon, contact TJN Orthopedics today.
